Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) provides tax credits for hiring individuals from certain demographics that often face barriers to employment. These include veterans, someone on SNAP or TANF, long term unemployed, justice involved individuals, etc. Your company can receive a tax credit from $1200 up to even $9600 for hiring one of these individuals.​

 

On the Job Training Incentive Program - Through the Cabinet’s Grant-in-Aid and Skills Training Investment Credit, the Kentucky Skills Network provides incentives to support Kentucky business’ efforts to help new and existing employees stay competitive through flexible, employer-driven skills-upgrade training. For businesses that hire unemployed and underemployed individuals, the On-the-Job Training Grant (OJT) can reimburse up to 75% of a trainee’s wages during the initial onboarding period.

 

Basic Training Skills - FREE

The WIN Learning Platform is a no cost online learning platform for developing “soft” skills. It would be an excellent resource to help skill up your employees on basic soft skills, as well as provide basic assessments for potential applicants as well.

 

Bill Sandell - Bill Sandell is a Workforce Development Consultant with Kentucky’s Office of Employer and Apprenticeship Services. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign and served as a military officer in the United States Army for several years. Bill’s final role in the military was as a personnel officer for an Army Battalion consisting of over 500 soldiers. He subsequently served in private sector administrative roles before returning to public service with Kentucky’s Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Bill’s experiences have led to a passion for helping others and serving his community to grow and improve.
